Rescue workers searched a partially collapsed building in New Haven, Conn. Friday, where they successfully removed survivors from the debris. However many are badly injured — two critically— according to early reports.

"@NewHavenFire have successfully removed all victims trapped in the debris of the collapse," Connecticut Fire Photographers Association tweeted along with photos from the successful extraction shortly before 2 p.m.

That tweet came nearly 20 minutes after firefighters in New Haven, Conn., said they’d removed some people from the collapsed structure, where others remained trapped. What exactly caused the building to collapse is unclear. It's located on Lafayette Street, according to a local NBC affiliate, which reports six patients with injuries hospital officials later said were not life threatening were brought to Yale New Haven Hospital.

Two others were reportedly hurt. A crew of 36 workers was reportedly doing construction on the building at 12:38 p.m., when it partially gave way while concrete was being poured. One of the challenges rescue workers faced was getting to victims before the cement hardened. NBC said some of the injured suffered broken bones. New Haven's Mayor reportedly said part of the building's second floor collapsed onto the floor below, also damaging the basement.

The incident comes less than a week after three tenants were reported missing when a building in Davenport, Iowa, collapsed on Sunday. A structural engineer report warned of deteriorating conditions in that structure shortly before it fell.
